News of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005

•   The city council of the Crimean town Sudak has suggested to host the 50-th Eurovision Song Contest on territory of the Sudak’s Genoa fortress (proUA.com)

•   The construction of additional pavilion of  the  Kiev’s International Exhibition Center  for hosting of  the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 was started. The Kiev builders has hammered the first piles. Mayor of Kiev, Alexander Omelchenko, informed, that finally the complex will be accepted in operation not later than May, 1, 2005. The complex was designed for 15 thousand spectators. Also it are planned to construct not less than five new hotel-office complexes in Kiev, also it is planned to defreeze construction of some hotels - Theatrical, Sacred Sofia, Redisson and Leipzig - due to participation of investors. Besides it all other hotels, which are operational today and do not correspond to the European level of 3 and 4-stars, will be reconstructed, and the personnel will be retraining. Besides, it will be given attention to maintenance of the  Contest with communications, “sound and light” and also transport service. (Новiй Канал)
  
  
•   Mayor of  Kiev has come out with the assumption, that the Organizing committee of  the Eurovision Song Contest 2005  may change the date of the Contest’s hosting from second half of May to the beginning of June, 2005.

•   The vice-president of  Organizing committee of  hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 - mayor of  Kiev Alexander Omelchenko, his assistant Vladimir Yalovyj, director of the  Kiev’s International Exhibition Center  Anatoly Tkachenko and the president of the National broadcasting company of Ukraine (NTKU) Alexander Savenko has taken part on the organizational meeting. •    EBU  demands, that the budget of  the Contest have to consist of not less than 9, 5 million Swiss francs. 4,5 million allocates by  EBU  itself , and the accepting party should allocate another 5 million. Alexander Savenko, the president of the National broadcasting company of  Ukraine (NTKU) has given to  EBU  the governmental guarantees that Ukraine guarantees to spend on hosting of  the Contest not less than 5 million Swiss francs. It is planned to sign the agreement between NTKU and  EBU  about hosting of the 50-th Eurovision Song Contest 2005 at the capital of Ukraine, the city of Kiev, till August, 1.
  Besides financial requirements,  EBU  puts forward some organizational demands - the presence of hall designed for 2 thousand the person, presence not less than 2 thousand places in hotels for residing representatives of official delegations, presence of the equipped press centre designed for a minimum of 600 person. The place of residing of visitors of festival should be located within of 30 minutes of going on taxi from a concert hall and within the limits of one hour of going on taxi from the airport.
  Mayor of  Kiev declares, that for hosting of the Contest, city, probably, would require financial help from the state budget of Ukraine. “We shall count up our opportunities and if,  for example, we will not have enough 12-15 million, I shall bring attention to the question that the government have to find this money. By our calculations, it does not suffice about $2,5-3 million to us to make better, than in Latvia and Turkey to us. I cannot grant from the budget of city. Privileges for the ground, gardening of city - everything, that in a condition, Kiev will make”.
  Besides it Svante Stockselius, the supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005  will arrive at Kiev on July, 6. Also representatives of the European countries, who are included into administrative council of the Contest will arrive together with him. The delegation plans to examine objects where the Ukrainian Organizing committee suggests to host the Eurovision 2005. It is possible to read more about this on website   ForUm.ua.

•   Riga expresses readiness to help to Kiev with preparation of the 50-th, anniversary Eurovision Song Contest.

•   Kiev Authorities have made the decision to lay underground tunnel between right and left coast of the Dnepr river for improvement of  the transport connections. Construction of  this small underground should be completed till beginning of  the the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. It is planning to complete the second and third pavilions of  the  Kiev’s International Exhibition Center  till March of the next year (a stage and make-up rooms will be placed there). The final decision about form of  the stage is not authorized yet. The hall was designed for 14 thousand spectators, it is supposed that they will sit on collapsible chairs. Construction of the fourth pavilion (offices will be placed there) will begin at the next year. Simultaneously with it the Kiev town-planning council has made the decision to send the civil-engineering design of the  Kiev’s International Exhibition Center  to redesign. Council believes that after realization of the project will be completed in that kind, in which it exists now, it will be difficult to use the Center for other purposes, except for hosting of  the Eurovision Song Contest.
