Mija Martina Barbaric was born in Mostar - the main city of Herzegovina, with the population about 50 thousand, known since XV century and located in a beauty spot in a valley on coast of the Neretva river - on April, 26, 1984. She has get the first musical triumph in the age of three and a half years, becoming the winner on children's festival at Mostar in 1987. Then it became clear, that she possesses the big musical abilities. Further Mija Martina acted at many other festivals which are lead out in former Yugoslavian republics, including in Split, Mostar, and on Turbo-limach show. In the age of sixteen years she has taken part in FORTE musical festival in Sarajevo
But nevertheless Mija Martina acted brightest at festivals in Mostar, at Bihac festival, and twice at festival in Zagreb. She has won the Davorin award and besides in the past already was candidate on the right to represent Bosnia - Herzegovina at Eurovision Song Contest twice. At Slovene International Radio-Festival in Kopar at 2002 Mija Martina has been named the Talent of the Year. Except for participation in festivals she repeatedly acted on radio and TV.
During free time from performances Mija Martina are studies strenuously. She plays on a piano and a flute, but recognizes, that recently she neglected these instuments a little. Mija Martina works as the journalist and presents the musical program on Mostars HTV. The young singer concerns to the her creativity very seriously. As she said, she puts some part of herself in each song. Besides Mija Martina herself thinks out all her performances, starting from a choreography and finishing the mimicry. At present she has released one full album, with 12 songs (including song Ne brini with which she represented Bosnia - Herzegovina on Eurovision Song Contest 2003). The music interests of Mija Martina are in pop, dance and in house styles.
In 2003 Mija Martina has taken part in competition of a choice of the representative of Bosnia - Herzegovina on Eurovision Song Contest 2003 in third time. In 2001 she has taken the ninth place with a song Nista ми ne moze (It cannot hurt to me). In 2002 Mija Martina was possible to take the second place with a song Nemoj danas (Not today). And now, at 2003, she has thought up a choreography to her new song and all performance in general. Before the beginning of selection competition she was considered the favorite singer of it. 18 songs have tasken part in a semifinal of competition. At the final only four
of them are remained (including Ne brini). After failure with televoting the representative of Bosnia - Herzegovina has been determined with the help of spare expert jury. Mija Martina and her song Ne brini (Do not worry) became winners. Thus, Mija could take part in Eurovision Song Contest as the representative of the her mother-country at 2003 at last. By the way, some critics marked, that Ne brini has some similarity to the song Sex Bomb of Tom Jones.
